Growing up
in Rennebu, Norway, Maria's main
interest in life were art and animals. Her senior year
of high school she came to the US as a foreign
exchange student, then attended Iowa State
University and received a Bachelor of Science in
Animal Science. She then enrolled in Iowa State
University's Veterinary College, pursuing her lifelong
dream to study and work with animals. During her
first year of veterinary school, Maria worked with
a gentleman with a very interesting major she had
never heard of, BPMI (Biological and Pre-Medical
Illustrations). After researching the program she
knew she was on the wrong career track and
enrolled in the BPMI program at Iowa State the next
fall. Maria is currently a freelance illustrator in Ames,
Iowa and does work in the US and abroad.
